River North/Streeterville Transit Alternatives Study

This planning project aimed to provide improved public transit facilities in downtown Chicago, including Magnificent Mile/Navy Pier area. Alternatives studied included dedicated bus-rapid transit (BRT) routes with curb-side, center-running, and underground (tunneled) alternatives for 7 different routes. As part of the project oversight team, on behalf of Chicago Department of Transportation, provided input in the travel demand modeling in VISUM, simulation modeling in VISSIM including calibration and validation, diversion modeling (impacts on other modes of traffic in the larger system due to change in the capacity of BRT routes), development of planning-level design alternatives, cost estimates and benefit/cost analysis, computation of service improvements per Transit Capacity and Quality of Service Manual, and innovative signal timing schemes to accommodate Transit Signal Priority.
