Midway

Chicago Midway International Airport serves as a hub for Southwest Airlines and offers a variety of domestic and international flights. With its close proximity to downtown Chicago, Midway Airport provides convenient access to the city. The airport has a single terminal and handles millions of passengers each year. Midway’s airfield layout has received few enhancements or modernizations since the 1990’s. Since the airfield’s conception the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has significantly evolved its criteria on airfield geometry. In an effort to bring the airport back into compliance with federal regulations the City of Chicago Depart of Aviation (CDA) is committed to developing a plan to improve non-standard conditions on the existing airfield. Our consultants have provided analysis and airfield conceptual design options to the CDA and FAA to develop a strategy for improving airfield safety and efficiency.
